Our Story

Steve Spangler had worked in the plumbing trade since 1973 at James Craft and Son, Inc. and Bob Boyer started in 1976 with LJ Peters. In 1981 they found themselves working together at a local plumbing and heating firm, CC Kottcamp, Inc.

In 1984, Steve and Bob felt it was time to move out on their own. August of 1984 they formed a partnership that was named Spangler and Boyer Plumbing and Heating. In January of 1985, Steve left CC Kottcamp, Inc. and went full time, and with Bob following in March when the work load was enough for two. At that time, the office was at Steve’s house and the first computer was a Commodore 64, which was more of a game computer/word processor. The warehouse was a garage at the back of Steve’s parents’ house. Steve and Bob were the estimators, installers, accounting department and anything else needed to be a small business entity. Their first employee was hired in December of that year and the days would start out with a daily company meeting at the Shiloh Rutter’s Farm Store. By 1987, growing pains were on the company and the move was made from Shiloh to the City of York into an old brick building with a slate roof and a tremendously tall smokestack, fondly known as the Crematorium. We had 1,400 square feet of office/warehouse and we were set! By that time, the company had grown to six employees and the work now included plumbing, HVAC, and some minimal service on our installations.

In 1991, the company was incorporated and continued to grow; now having a complete HVAC service department. By 1996, more space was needed and the growing pains hit once again. The new location would be out near Thomasville, next to Briarwood Golf Course. The new location had 1,200 square foot of office space with an additional 5,600 for warehousing. This should be good for a company now up to 18 employees. During the next few years, it was decided that we could better serve our customers by making some of our own sheet metal duct, so we leased an additional 4,000 square feet of shop space across the street for our business.

10 years later, in 2006, a new 18,500 square foot warehouse/sheetmetal fabrication shop was built to replace the old warehouse and the office area was expanded to 2,800 square feet. At this time, the company had grown to over 40 fulltime employees.

In the years that followed, the company streamlined its operations and is now recognized as one of the premier Plumbing and HVAC companies in the south central Pennsylvania region.

With the continued growth of the company and in preparation for the future, Chad Lamparter was installed as Vice President. Chad had started working for Spangler and Boyer Mechanical in 1999. In 2022, Chad took over as President of the company. In the more than 30 years of existence, we feel that the company has grown to where we are today because of the efforts of each employee.

Our company is a service oriented company and it relies heavily on the association between each employee and each of our customers. It is through our commitment to craftsmanship and customer satisfaction that we have become a trusted and valuable business partner to our customers. Each job that we do for our customers is important and demands that we treat them as such. It is for this reason that so many of our customers have been with us for many, many years.
